The Nook Rejects: Part I
Welcome to the first upon many, I'm sure, of The Nook's Rejects.

Here is where I'll give you my honest opinion on books I never made it to the end of and why.
First up?
Where do I even begin with this one? *Shakes my head*
At first? I had high hopes for this book, I did. It takes place at a fancy rich academy, giving that high upper class feel.
The more I read however?
Shit went from "steamy" to downright "cringe".
There's teachers sleeping with half the female student-body, dudes that think girls are walking sex toys for their personal enjoyment, and a purity ceremony that'll make you wanna gag.
While, I'm all for older men? I have to drawl the line at teachers and high school aged students. Nope, not my thing. Sorry not sorry. Especially when said teach gets one of the girls pregnant.
Yes, teenage boys are horny fuckers with too much time on their hands...but in this book? Amp that up and add roofies and video cameras.
As a woman? That pissed me off, royally.
Thankfully the male lead isn't the one behind the lens. Though Crew Lancaster isn't without his own faults. Dude thinks he's God's gift to Miss Wren Belmont, the schools very own virgin Mary.
Wren? Girl needs a backbone and a fucking chill pill. I didn't finish the book so I don't know if she ever toughens up, but from what I did read? The girl is a judgemental crybaby. Not to mention? She talks...a lot. Mostly about school or her virginity.
When the spicy scenes do pop up? They feel rushed or out of place.
It was actually one of these spicy scenes that sealed this books fate for me...
So? Here's your fair warning...
If you plan on reading A Million Kisses In Your Lifetime by Monica Murphy? Proceed with caution when you get to Chapter 27.
And for the love of God? DO NOT RECREATE THAT SCENE!
It's not cute, it's nasty as fuck and completely unsanitary!
After that? I quit reading. I didn't even finish the chapter. With all my other cons against the book? That was it for me. No, thank you.
Next Reject?
Take Me to The River by Kaci Rose.
I didn't even make it to double digits in this damn book.
This book has so much potential! It really pisses me off that it didn't hit like it should have.
If you've never read this book, super short summary...
Emily finds out her boyfriend cheated on her during a camping trip, they fight, boyfriend leaves her stranded in the woods.
Emily goes walking around in said woods gets lost and bam...enter the tall, dark, mountain man, Axel, bathing in the river.
Seems intriguing, right? Wrong.
Here's my pros & cons.
Pros:
Attractive male lead. He cooks, he cleans. The man built his cabin. Axel definitely has the attraction.
Spice right from the start. But not overpowering.
Axel gives that perfect mix of a mountain man who's fierce and protective. Yet soft and caring.
Cons:
Too fast. Axel begins talking about wanting to be in a relationship with Emily, the female lead, the day they meet. Having thoughts of asking her to move in and whatnot.
Slow down there, big guy. It's only chapter 6.
Emily too. Y'all literally just met. You were just left stranded and now you're cuddled up to him calling him your “Giant”? (Chapter 7)
Contradiction. Axel size seems to play a big part in the reasoning behind him being in the woods. But it seems all over the place in some ways.
One minute he says he moved out there to get away from people and then turns around and says it's due to his size.
Pick one, Ms. Rose.
Using his size? Good idea. But the constant up and down of his demeanor? One minute he's a brute force and the next he's this shy eyes to the floor kind of man? It really throws the feel of him off.
----
This book just went way too fast pace for my liking. That ultimately what did it in.
If you don't mind that "fuck on the first night" type of vibes? Go for it.
Me? Imma leave Axel right there in his little river and take my ass on!
